Chapter 3 Creating and Managing Websites 37
WARNING: Do not try to access the server through the direct ports. Instead, allow
your access to be proxied through Apache as it is set up. For instance, Server Admin
provides no obvious way to congure wikis, and will return the xmlrpc error. In
addition, do not access the wiki server on port 8086 or 8087.
7 Enter the path to the folder you set up for this website.
You can also click the Choose button and browse for the folder you want to use.
8 In the Error Document eld, enter the page you want to appear when a web page
error occurs.
9 (Optional) In the Administrator Email eld, enter the administrator mail address.
The server sends website error messages to this mail address.
10 Click Save.
Setting the Default Webpage
The default page appears when a user connects to your website by specifying a folder
or host name instead of a le name.
You can have more than one default page (known as a default index le in Server
Admin) for a website. If multiple index les are listed for a website, the web server uses
the rst one listed in the web folder for that website.
To set the default webpage:
1 Open Server Admin and connect to the server.
2 Click the triangle at the left of the server.
The list of services appears.
3 From the expanded Servers list, select Web.
4 Click Sites, then select the website in the list.
5 Click General below the websites list.
6 At the right of the Default Index Files list, click the Add (+) button and enter a name
(but do not use spaces in the name).
A le with this name must be in the web folder.
7 To set the le as the default page the server displays, drag that le to the top of the list.
8 Click Save.
Note: If you plan to use only one index page for a site, you can leave index.html as
the default index le and change the content of the existing le with that name in
/Library/WebServer/Documents/.
