Home Folder Only
When you choose the “Home Folder Only” option, authenticated users are conned to
their home folders and do not have access to the FTP root or other FTP share points,
as shown in the following illustration:

Anonymous users and users without home folders still have access to the FTP root but
cannot browse FTP share points.
On-the-Fly File Conversion
FTP service in Mac OS X Server enables users to request compressed or decompressed
versions of information about the server.
A le-name sux such as “.Z” or “.gz” indicates that the le is compressed. If a user
requests a le named “Hamlet.txt” and the server only has a le named “Hamlet.txt.Z,”
the server knows that the user wants the decompressed version, and delivers it to the
user in that format.
In addition to standard le compression formats, FTP in Mac OS X Server can read
les from Hierarchical File System (HFS) or non-HFS volumes and convert the
les to MacBinary (.bin) format. MacBinary is one of the most commonly used le
compression formats for the Macintosh operating system.
