Care and handling
Follow these guidelines as you use your AppleCD 300i:
m Never transport your computer with a CD-ROM disc or a
caddy inside the drive.
m Avoid exposing your equipment to dust. If dust collects on the
lens inside your AppleCD 300i, the drive might have problems
reading your CD-ROM discs.
Setting up your CD-ROM software
In most cases, all the required software for using your
AppleCD 300i drive is already installed on your computer and
ready for use. Follow the instructions in this chapter only if the
CD-ROM software is not installed, or if you need to reinstall the
software for any reason.
Checking whether the CD-ROM software is installed
To check for CD-ROM software:
m Pull down the Apple (K) menu and check whether AppleCD
Audio Player appears in the menu.
If AppleCD Audio Player appears in the menu, then CD-ROM
software has already been installed. Skip to “Using Discs in Your
CD-ROM Drive” to learn about using your CD-ROM drive. If
AppleCD Audio Player isn’t in the menu, follow the instructions in
the next section to install the CD-ROM software.
Installing the Macintosh CD-ROM setup software
The software you need to install is in one of two places.
m If you received a set of floppy disks with your computer, the
software you need is on the floppy disks labeled
Install Me
First and Extras. Follow the directions in this section to install
the software.
m If you received a CD-ROM disc labeled CD Install Me First, the
software you need is on the disc. See the manual titled System
Software Installation & Backup that came with your
computer for information on how to use the disc to install the
CD-ROM software.
