Problems using CD-ROM discs
You insert a CD-ROM disc but its icon does not appear on
the Macintosh desktop.
Tr y restarting the computer.
Make sure the AppleCD 300i software is installed.
Make sure the CD caddy is inserted in the drive right side up with
the CD disc label up and visible, and the end with the metal
shutter entering first into the drive.
There is no application program capable of displaying the
contents of a particular CD-ROM.
Read the manual that came with your CD-ROM disc. Some discs
come with a separate floppy disk containing the program that
reads the information on the disc.
You can’t save changes you make to information on a
CD-ROM disc.
CD-ROM is a read-only medium. That means that information can
be read (retrieved) from it, but not written (stored) on it. You can
save the changed information on a hard disk or floppy disk.
You cannot open a document on a CD-ROM disc.
Tr y opening the application program first; then open the
document.
Your computer displays the message “This is not a
Macintosh disk: Do you want to initialize it?” when you
insert a CD-ROM disc in the AppleCD 300i.
The disc uses a format other than ISO 9660/High Sierra,
Macintosh HFS, or audio CD disc formats. Eject the disc and
exchange it for a disc that works with the AppleCD 300i.
If the disc uses the ISO 9660/High Sierra, Macintosh HFS, or audio
CD disc format, make sure that the Foreign File Access extension
is installed in your Extensions folder in the System Folder. If it’s
not there, see “Installing the Macintosh CD-ROM Setup Software.”
Your computer ejects the CD-ROM disc without giving you
any error message.
Make sure you’ve inserted the disc correctly in the caddy (the
label side should be up and the disc should be lying flat).
If this suggestion doesn’t work, the CD-ROM disc is probably
damaged and needs to be replaced.
