3. Put the caddy containing your disc into the drive.

Insert the caddy with the label side of the disc facing up, with

the metal shutter end first. Release the caddy when you feel it

being automatically pulled into the drive.

When a caddy is loaded in the drive, the words “Caddy

Loaded” appear on the drive door.

After a few seconds, the disc icon appears on your Macintosh

desktop.

If the message “This is not a Macintosh disk. Do you want to

initialize it?” appears, then the data on the CD-ROM disc

cannot be used by your computer (the files are in a format

that the computer doesn’t recognize). Eject the disc.

4. Use each disc following the instructions that came with

the disc, as well as the instructions in this book.

v Using shared discs: If you share a CD-ROM disc using the file-

sharing feature of System 7, you will be able to hear audio

portions of the disc yourself, but other people on the network

will not. Likewise, you cannot hear the audio portions of discs

you access over a network. v

v Maintenance tip: For best performance, avoid exposing discs

and the AppleCD 300i to dust or smoke. If dust collects on the

lens inside of the AppleCD 300i, the drive might have

problems reading your discs. v

S Important: Do not transport the computer with a caddy

inside the CD-ROM drive.
